Got some nice news this morning - have been shortlisted for the UK Young Publisher of the Year Award. Not announced until Friday so not completely sure I should be mentioning it yet but it is rewarding to gain some recognition and also for everyone involved in Legend Press who have worked so hard and successfully since the company began (in theory, while drunk on a train journey home, but that's another story...)
Have to go in front of a panel on 18th April at the London Book Fair, to be quizzed and interogated as to being 'young', a 'publisher' and 'of the year' and then results are announced at the hopefully swanky British Book Trade Awards on 1st May.
Those who may have seen my bleary and stressed eyes this Monday morning may well have questioned the young part, but I have come to realise that I love being the youngest and running the youngest-run publisher - we look at everything freshly, with enthusiasm and also have a good laugh along the way. I've also come to enjoy the 'you're younger than I expected' or 'where's your tweed suit, white hair and traditional literary air' look. It gives us a great chance to shake things up and bit and the more profile we get the more shaking we'll get to do.
Thanks to those who sent supportive messages when the nomination was originally announced.
