The Herald review spoke about Bonnie's appearance on Question Time and commented:
That encounter was far from Greer’s first brush with politics, and in this book she argues that only the South Side of Chicago could have produced an African-American man capable of making it all the way to the Oval Office. The current administration in Washington is, she says, “a South Side presidency”.A British citizen for the last 12 years, Greer is from Chicago herself, and Obama Music is as much about her formative years as it is about the president. Woven through this book is the complex sociology of Chicago, an Irish-run town where the annual St Patrick’s Day Parade seemed to her like a Kremlin march-past; where chitlins were on the table every Sunday; and where the first wave of Afro-centrism inspired her friends to adopt “names a yard long and attitudes to match”.
